FC Bayern Munich: Felix Magath sees parallel to Manchester United
The former coach of Bayern Felix Magath considers the role of honorary president Uli Hoeneß as a problem for the club – and compares the situation with the Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson.
“Manchester United has the same problem as the Bavarians: a man has led the club over many decades and made great, so he will always be the contact person for many in the club,” said Magath in the Talk broadcast Sky90. “That’s why he also determines what happens there after his departure. Only not officially.”
FC Bayern has won since Hoeneß ‘farewell as president in autumn 2019 after all, the triple and another championship title. United, on the other hand, is waiting for a championship title since Ferguson has cleared the coaching office in 2013. Currently, the 80-year-old Scot acts as a member of the Executive Board.
Hoeneß’s role in the background FC Bayern is mainly “a problem”, especially for the current sports board Hasan Salihamidzic, how Magath said, “He must first discuss things with Hoeneß when it comes to contracts such as Robert Lewandowski or Manuel Neuer.” The same applies to the chairman of the Executive Board Oliver Kahn. “I do not know if Kahn can swim out,” said Magath.
